Christian Ministry shines at Christmas

As the Lincolnton Rotary Club presented Christian Ministry Director Susan Brymer with a check for $7,000 (representing $60 per Rotarian) Monday, hundreds were lined up outside the ministry office to receive holiday gifts of food and toys. Contributions continued to pour in throughout this week from churches and civic organizations, but mostly from citizens of Lincoln County. Despite the frigid temperatures, the usual entourage of volunteers showed up to help distribute goods and direct traffic.
Every year Christian Ministry sets a monetary goal, and collects food and toys for those in need. This year’s monetary goal was to top $61,000. According to the most recent report, contributions have already reached $62,333.90.
Every year, this community delivers. It’s during the holiday season that we really see the work of the ministry as hundreds gather at the ministry offices to pick up gifts. But the ministry’s mission to help the needy goes on all year long. The soup kitchen serves the needy seven days a week.
A lot of the work of the ministry comes from volunteers, many from the nearly 100 churches that make up its membership and provide assistance year round. The commitment each year from so many diverse organizations is a tribute to the Christian community in Lincoln County.
Our thanks to those churches and volunteers, to Brymer and other regular workers at the ministry and to the governing board for this treasure of Christian charity.
