Costea wins silver

Bobby Costea of Lincolnton captured his second silver medal Sunday spurring his Weyandt’s Gymnastics team to a 1st place finish at the 2004 Snowman Classic.
Of the 57 gymnasts competing at Level 4, Costea placed first on floor exercise, scoring 9.5; first on rings with a 9.6; first on high bar with an 8.75; second on vault with a 9.25; third on parallel bars with an 8.7; and 7th on pommel horse with a 6.7.
His overall score of 52.5 put him in second place behind gold medalist and Weyandt’s teammate Steffen Haugsted, of Weddington. Teammates Steen Haugsted, of Weddington, placed third; R.J. Fabian, of Mint Hill, placed 9th: and Matthew Halstead, of Charlotte, placed 13th in the all-around competition.
Costea is a first-grader at Lincoln Charter School – Denver Campus.His next competition in this area will be January 29-30 at Foothills Gymnastics in Hickory.by Al Dozier
