Four local teens prepare to compete

CHARLOTTE — Four Lincoln County teens will be featured in the upcoming 57th Carolinas’ Carrousel Parade.
Representatives from Lincolnton, North, East and West Lincoln high schools will first compete in the Pepsi Coronation and Awards Ceremony where the new Carrousel Queen will be crowned.
The event will be held Wednesday, Nov. 24 at 7:45 p.m. at the Omni Charlotte Hotel, 132 E. Trade St.
The event will feature keynote speaker Dale Halton, president and chairman of the board of Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in Charlotte.
Entertainment will be provided by the East Burke Cavalier Band and the East Burke Choral Singers. Sixty Carrousel representatives will have their formal presentation. Tickets for the event are available now at the Carrousel office: $15 for adults; $10 for students; and $5 for children 12 and under. In addition to the crowning of the queen, winners of the marching band scholarship program and matching grants will be announced.
Lincoln County representatives include Jessica Elizabeth Ward, Emily Susan Mackie, Amanda McPherson and Beverly Erin Hutchins.
Ward is a student at North Lincoln High School. She plans to major in secondary mathematics education with a minor in mathematics at North Carolina State University or the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Mackie is a student at Lincolnton High School. She plans to attend a four-year university to become a teacher.
McPherson is a student at East Lincoln High School. She hopes to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Hutchins is a student at West Lincoln High School. She plans to attend a four-year university to study in the medical field.
The newly crowned queen will be featured in the Carrousel parade set for 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day in Charlotte.
The parade will be a delayed telecast on WBTV Channel 3. Time for the telecast will 4 p.m.
The parade route is approximately 1 1/2 miles in length through uptown Charlotte. The procession begins on North Tryon Street at 11th Street.
There will be many places to view the parade. Grandstand tickets will not be sold this year.
