Having front row seats for victory

Each election day provides a bit of irony for one Lincolnton resident.
Florene Reinhardt lives directly across from Republican headquarters on Academy Street.
During Tuesday night’s excitement, Reinhardt and her friend from Lake Norman, Ruby Lail, had a front row seat — sitting in rocking chairs on her front porch.
“I love to sit here and listen to the people,” said Reinhardt. “I hear them holler out, but I don’t know who’s winning.”
Originally from Boger City, Reinhardt has lived in the house for more than 50 years. She enjoys warm nights when she can feel the excitement in the air. Despite her close proximity, the homeowner said no one has ever come over to solicit her vote.
No political signs stick up in her yard. In fact, Lail admits neither she nor her friend voted in this year’s election.
“I don’t know much about politics,” said Reinhardt.
Though she doesn’t consider herself a political person, Reinhardt did feel a bond with the Republican supporters Tuesday night. She kept her fingers crossed for Bush’s re-election.
And both women agree that the location couldn’t be better for election night.
“I like to watch the crowd,” said Lail.by Diane Turbyfill
