In what has become tradition for the Lincolnton Police Department, officers took part in weapons qualifications in wet, muddy conditions this week.
Thirty-eight officers took part in the exercise designed to test their speed and accuracy when it comes to their weapons.
Officers qualify with their weapons twice a year.
The firing range used by the Lincolnton Police Department and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is located on Hauss Road off N.C. 27 West.
Lt. Kent Lukach, crime prevention and training officer for the Lincolnton Police Department, said officers qualify with pistols, rifles and machine guns.
The qualifying is supplemented by eight hours of instruction and legal updates, Lukach said.
Being proficient with weapons is a necessary skill, Lukach said.
“I hope we never have to revert to using deadly force, but if the situation arise, my officers are ready,†he said.
