It was the Marcus Williamsâ€™ show in Lincolntonâ€™s 22-8 win over West Lincoln in Thursday nightâ€™s JV game. Williams scored on a 70-yard run and a 65-yard run leading the Wolves in rushing and to the win.
The West Lincoln Rebels were up to 8-0 over the Lincolnton Wolves team at halftime. In the third quarter, Marcus Williams scored on a 70-yard run off an option but the conversion failed leaving the score 8-6.
In the fourth quarter, Wolvesâ€™ quarterback Madriekus Mayfield ran it in from 15 yards out. Mayfield then completed a pass to tight end Demory Brewer to make the score 14-8.
With several minutes remaining, Williams put the nail in the coffin with a 65-yard run right up the gut of the Rebelsâ€™ defense. Mayfield then completed a pass to Jamel Reeves giving the Wolves the win 22-8.
On defense, Reeves and Tavares Jefferies recorded interceptions for the Wolves.
Wolvesâ€™ head coach Fred Dalrymple felt the game was a tale of two halves.
â€œIn the first half, they drove it right down our throat. In the second half, we picked up our intensity and played some good football.â€
North Lincoln fell 26-8 to Maiden Thursday night. Robert Howse scored the lone touchdown for the Knights from two yards out. Peyton Brady ran in the conversion.
Kyle Wilkinson and Cody Peeler were defensive standouts. North Lincoln coach Lonnie Custer believed he knew the difference-maker.
â€œI thought we played hard. We just have to finish drives. Maiden did a great job of that and we didnâ€™t,â€ he said.
The East Lincoln Mustangs were shut out 24-0 by the Ashbrook Green Wave in Thursday nightâ€™s JV contest.
