Knights edged by Bearcats

In a battle of two of the Southern Foothills 1A’s best teams, North Lincoln was edged 5-4 by Hendersonville on Wednesday.
North’s No. 1 seed Caroline Farris was defeated 2-6, 0-6 by Jessica Elben. Sarah Long, No. 2 for the Lady Knights, fell to Jeanne Maria LaBord 2-6, 0-6.
Lady Knights’ No. 3 seed Jordan Kinney recorded the first win of the match dismissing Anna Klein 6-3, 6-3. No. 4 Hannah Mozeley lost 5-7, 0-6 to Sarah Cox.
North received a boost from No. 5 seed May Eisner and No. 6 Nataleigh Hitt. Eisner won 6-3, 6-3 over Maria Bohan, while Hitt won 6-3, 6-2 over Julia Daubert. The two victories evened the match 3-3 heading into doubles’ play.
In doubles, No.1 Farris/Kinney was blanked 10-0 by Elben/LaBord. No. 2 seed Long/Mozeley fell to Klein/Cox 10-5. With the match already decided, Eisner/Hitt beat Daubert/ Alex Lozowski 10-3.
In exhibition play, Jessalyn Cullitan beat Brittany Dodson 8-0. Laura Walters won her match 8-0.
Although the outcome was not favorable for the Lady Knights, head coach Julie Mills was happy with her team given the fact they lost 9-0 last season to Hendersonville.
“I’m very proud of the way the girls played. It shows all the hard work and determination pays off. The girls stayed positive and supported each other 100 percent.”

East Lincoln Volleyball
The Lady Mustangs dropped a 3-1 decision; (23-25,25-21,16-25,15-25) to East Gaston on Thursday.
Varsity players that stood out were: Krista Abernathy with 16 assists, six aces; six digs and one roof,
Lauren Sharpe with nine kills, five blocks and two roofs and Elizabeth Covington with nine kills and one roof.
The Lady Mustangs’ record is 2-8 on the season and 2-3 in the Big South 3A.
The junior varsity squad earned a 2-0 win; (25-18, 27-25). The key players for the Mustangs were: Neely Reid with 10 assists and three aces, Katie Reel with six kills, three aces and Samantha Betts with eight aces and one kill.
The win ups their record to 4-6 and 4-1 in the BS 3A.

North volleyball
North Lincoln continues winning picking up their eight victory of the season beating Polk Co. 3-2; 20-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-15, 15-12 on Thursday.
The Lady Knights were led by: Jessica Ward with 10 kills, four blocks, four aces, three digs, Jessie Devine with six kills, six blocks, three aces and three digs and Allison Castle with six kills, four digs and three aces.
Kathryn Thorne had eight blocks and Ale Arce had nine assists.
Their record is now 8-4 and 3-1 in the Southern Foothills 1A Conference.
The JV team fell to 9-3, 2-2 in the SF 1A with a 2-1 loss; (25-23, 17-25, 21-25).
Standouts were Chasity Morgan with 10 kills and one block, Taylor Ewing with five kills and one block, Janna Bourbeau with 11 assists and seven aces and McKenzie Harkey with four aces and two kills. by John Mark Brooks
