New Hope Baptist Church, in Denver will host their ministry for those who must take care of the disabled or the elderly. Speaker will be Marty Hovis, Service Program coordinator. Meeting will be Wednesday Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited. For more information call 704-483-8610.

Dan Starks, Personal Safety Expert will be providing a seminar on Monday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m., at the East Lincoln Library, 7837 Fairfield Forest Road, Denver.

The 23rd Annual Folklife festival at Historic Latta Plantation will be Oct. 16 & 17. Arts, crafts, and folk skills of the Catawba Valley are demonstrated in the House, Barns, Cabin and grounds of Historic Latta Plantation. Daily admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $4 for students of any age. Children 5 and under are admitted free. Historic Latta Plantation is located on Sample Road, off of Beatties Ford Road in Huntersville.

Historic Latta Plantation will commemorate the 224th anniversary of the Battle of Charlotte on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 18 and 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $4 for students of any age. The second annual Denver Days Festival will be held on Oct. 1 & 2. Friday’s events will run from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. The festival will run Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will be held in downtown Denver, off of N.C. 16 on Denver Drive. Admission is free. Entertainment will include a performance by the “Tams” on Friday evening, a 5K race, a Denver Beauty Pageant on Saturday, “Elvis” and the Lake Norman Ensemble.

Christian Women’s Fellowship at Westport Baptist Church will have Renea Henderson as the speaker on Oct. 4 at 10 a.m. Gloria Morrison will be the singer. There will be a $6 donation. The Relay for Life Poker Run will take place Saturday, Sept. 18 with registration at 10 a.m. The event will begin at First Turn Sports Lounge, 6250 N N.C. 16, Denver. In the event of questionable weather call First Turn Sports Lounge at 704-483-1797.

The Amazing Maize Maze will have it’s grand opening Aug. 28 and run until Oct. 17 on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Historic Rural Hill Farm in Huntersville. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, 60 and over, $7 for nine to 17, $5 for four to eight years old and three and under are free. The event is open on Labor Day. ELBA will host their second progressive dinner on Sept. 23 to benefit the Lincoln County Coalition Against Child Abuse. The night will begin at 6:30 p.m. with appetizers at Mazatlan, located in Natalie Commons Shopping Center. Dinner & Dessert will be held at Curly’s BBQ, located next to Waterside Crossing on N.C. 73 East. Live entertainment after dinner will be the Sigmon Stringers. Tickets are $25 each for adults and $15 each for children. Checks should be made payable to ELBA. Deadline for tickets is Sept. 15. The 4th annual Phoenix Society Golf Classic will be held Monday, Oct. 4 at the Peninsula Club in Cornelius. The event will honor fallen firefighter, Josh Earley, who was a Harrisburg and Charlotte firefighter and will benefit the North Carolina Burn Survivors and firefighters. The shotgun start is at 9:30 a.m. Golfers will enjoy a continental breakfast, lunch, hors d’oeuvres and prizes.
