DENVER — Wendy Galle was shy and timid at the age of 12. She had no self esteem or motivation.
With encouragement from her mother, Galle got involved in pageants and it changed her as an individual.
“I gained a lot of self esteem and motivation,†Galle said. “I realized my self-worth.â€
She is hoping to pass this on to other young girls and has arranged a Denver Pageant for Saturday, Sept. 18 at North Lincoln High School. The proceeds will help the Denver Days Festival which is the first weekend in October.
“I thought it would make a great fund-raiser,†she said. “I am from Denver and this is a good way to give back to the community.â€
The festival will have five divisions, with a queen and runners-up in each division.
The divisions are Little Miss for 6 and 7-year-olds, Junior Miss for 10 and 12-year-olds, Young Miss for ages 13 to 15, Teen for ages 16 to 18 and Miss Denver for ages 19 to 24.
There will be a beauty competition, which will include evening gowns. The photogenic category is optional, in which the applicant will be judged on the photos they submit. There will be a photogenic winner in each division.
The Miss Denver winner will be awarded a $1,000 college scholarship. The teen winner will receive a $500 savings bond.
All winners will receive a banner and flowers, runners-up will also receive flowers and each photogenic winner from each division will receive a gift.
The festival is being held two weeks before the Denver Days Fall Festival so the queens can make an appearance at the festival.
The beauty queens will make their appearances at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2.
Galle said they are taking applications now, and will accept them at the door on the day of the pageant.
Doors will open at 9 a.m., with the first three divisions beginning at 10 a.m. The afternoon pageant will start at 1 p.m. for Teen and Miss divisions.
