Week 2 of JV action

The tandem of Madriekus Mayfield and C.J. Wilson continues to not disappoint. The Lincolnton Wolves, led by the ninth-graders beat East Lincoln 32-12 Thursday night.
In the first quarter, Mayfield scored on a 15-yard run. In the second, Wilson scored on a 4-yard run. Then Mayfield struck again and again it was with his legs. Mayfield turned a bootleg into a 70-yard touchdown.
On defense, the big play of the night was turned in by Tavares Jefferies who interception a Mustang pass and returned it 30 yards to the house for a touchdown. Mayfield connected with Demory Brewer for the two-point conversion.
In the third, East Lincoln scored on a 25-yard run to make the score 26-6. Mayfield, who finished with two touchdowns rushing, hit Jamel Reeves for a 50-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Tom Deal, Alex Eagle, Drew Mullen and Nate Wright were cited by head coach Fred Dalrymple for outstanding blocking on the offensive line.
Defensively, Jefferies, Octavius Reid, Josh Adams and Justin Farley were standouts.
“We’ve improved from the first week of the season and we’ll continue to work hard and improve,” Dalrymple said.
The win raises Lincolnton’s record to 2-0. East falls to 1-1.
Charlotte Catholic led 22-0 at the half and did not look back cruising to a 34-8 win over the North Lincoln Knights.
Josh Mull scored the only touchdown for the Knights and also ran in the two-point conversion. Alex Keener was a standout for Knights at safety.
North Lincoln’s record is 1-1 on the season.
West Lincoln shut out the Bessemer City Yellow Jackets 20-0.
The Rebels were led by Logan Shronce and Kevin Martin. West Lincoln rushed for over 100 yards in the game.
On defense, head coach Gene Scronce was very pleased.
“They played a superb game. We forced five turnovers which never allowed Bessemer City to capitalize on offense,” he said.
The win evens the West Lincoln’s record at 1-1. They will play North Gaston on Sep. 16.
