Indian Creek Tennis and Swim Club will hold its first Open House and Tennis Exhibition this week.
The event will start Wednesday and run till Saturday, owner and resident tennis pro Don Campbell said. The four-day event will be composed of daily tennis events that will lead up to the grand finale — an exhibition tournament featuring Tim Wilkison, former U.S. Open semi-finalist.
Wilkison grew up in Shelby and was U.S. 16 and under champion. He turned pro at the age of 17.
Wilkison played the ATP tour for 15 years. He won six singles and nine doubles titles during his pro career.
He had wins over Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, Boris Becker, Yannick Noah, Pete Sampras, Ivan Lendl and Stefan Edberg.
After his ATP career, Wilkison played on the Senior Tour and still competes in those events.
He won two singles and 10 doubles titles on the Senior Tour and boasts wins over Jimmy Conners and John McEnroe.
Wilkison is currently the director of tennis at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, where his duties include coaching junior players who plan on playing tennis in college.
