PROBUS CLUB OF LAKE NORMAN
The ProBus club of Lake Norman announces its summer social on Tuesday, Aug. 24 at the Charles Mack Citizenâ€™s Center in Mooresville. Members, guests and prospective members are welcome. The evening will begin with a social hour at 5 p.m. followed by a catered dinner at 6 BYOB (no red wine, please). The East Lincoln Political Action Committee will be hosting an open meeting Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. in the parish hall of St. Peter By-The-Lake Episcopal Church, 8433 Fairfield Forest Drive, Denver.
Due to Hurricane Charley, the Historic Latta Plantation Civil War Encampment has been rescheduled for August 28 and 29. Reenactors from the 30th NC will show how Confederate soldiers lived while on campaign. There will be drill and musket firing demonstrations, as well as talks about field cooking, uniforms, and equipment. Local historians Dan Morrill and Tony Zeiss will sign copies of their books. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for senior citizens, $4 for students, and children 5 and under are free. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will be held at 5225 Sample Road in the Latta Plantation Nature Preserve, Huntersville.
Starting Friday, Aug 20, a new Friday Night Fishinâ€™ Friends series known as â€œShowdownsâ€ will begin. The stand alone team tournaments will be run out of Midway Marina on Lake Norman. Entry fee will be $40 per boat. There is a one time $5 membership fee for new FNFF members. The Showdowns will be open events. Showdowns will start at 7 p.m. and end at 1 a.m. New members are encouraged. Showdowns are scheduled to run every Friday night at least through September. CHRISTIAN MUSIC FESTIVAL
Lake Norman Lutheran Church will have their third annual music festival, Saturday, Sept. 11 from noon to 8 p.m. All proceeds received from ads, concession and sales will benefit East Lincoln Christian Ministry. The event is free and open to the public.
WAYNEâ€™S SENIOR FEAST
The Wayneâ€™s Senior Feast has been rescheduled for Aug. 20 at Captâ€™n Peteâ€™s Restaurant on N.C. 150. The meeting will start at 10 a.m. and lunch will be served. Cost is $6. A sing along with E.C. SALEM UMC DINNER THEATRE
Salem United Methodist Churchâ€™s dinner theatre, â€œIf the Good Lordâ€™s Willing and the Creek Donâ€™t Rise,â€ will have performances Aug. 28 & 29 at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. at the Christian Life Center. Verdict Ridge Golf & Country Club will host the 4th annual ladies invitational golf tournament to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation on Monday, Aug. 30. Registration will be at 9 a.m. with a shot gun at 10 a.m. Cost for the day is $60 per player. Lunch will be complimentary. Mount Anderson Baptist Church will hold their 4th annual car show, Saturday, Sept. 11. Registration will be from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Awards will be issued at 2 p.m. The cost is $15 to enter. TUCKERâ€™S GROVE CAMP MEETING
Tuckerâ€™s Grove Camp meeting will take place Aug. 14 to Aug. 22 at Tuckerâ€™s Grove Campground located on N.C. 73. A singing will take place Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m., with services taking place at 7:30 p.m. each evening. On the last Sunday there will be an 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. service.
