Wreck cuts power lines

A tractor-trailer driver had to be airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center Saturday following a wreck in Boger City.
Randy Dean Green of 287 Hamby Mountain Road in Puryear was driving a tractor trailer west on East Main Street near Lithia Inn Road, according to police reports.
A car driven by Matthew Hail Hill, 102 Hastings Park Road in Bessemer City, was traveling east on East Main Street.
At about 12:09 a.m., Hill crossed the center line and entered the west bound lane, striking Green’s truck head-on.
The truck then struck a utility pole, knocking out power to nearby homes and businesses. The Harris-Teeter grocery store was forced to shut down temporarily.
The speed limit on East Main Street near Lithia Inn Road is 45 mph. At impact, reports state that Hill was traveling 45 mph. Neither were believed to have been speeding before the wreck.
Charges are pending, according to reports.by Staff Reports
