Job fair to present county employers

For the first time in three years, Lincoln County is having a job fair open to the public.
On Wednesday, July 14 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., employers will gather at the Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 South Aspen Street, for “Lincoln County Works.”
There will be roughly 20 employers representing a range of jobs in retail, manufacturing, medical and city jobs. Representatives from the Lincoln County school system and local restaurants will also be present.
Some of the employers participating so far include La-Z-Boy, Bi-Lo, Lincoln Medical Center, Blum Inc, Wal-Mart, Employment Staffing, Goodwill, Gaston College, ESC, I-CARE, Cochrane Furniture, and the City of Lincolnton.
There will also be workshops presented on resume writing and job seeking skills.
Judi Morton, manager at Lincoln County’s Employment Security Commission, said she is excited about the opportunity for a job fair.
“We used to do it once a year, but we have not done it in three years because of the economy,” she said.
Morton said there are a lot of employers that have started hiring now.
“I hope it will really start some interest,” she said.
There are lots of applicants who use the Employment Security Commission, she said, but there are many that do not. Morton said she is sure many people will come out who have never used the commission before.
Morton said employers can register for the job fair up until the day of the event.
“We will have plenty of space,” she said.
The goal is to hold a job fair once a year, like it was done in the past.
“We are hoping to connect applicants to the job market and make everyone happy,” she said.

Vendors are asked to bring items to hand out to job seekers at each booth.
The event is sponsored by the Employment Security Commission/JobLink Career Center.
