Airman Luke Hickman of Vale recently completed Aerospace Maintenance Apprentice school at Shepherd Air Force Base in Texas.
During his crew chief training, he learned to perform inspections, functional checks and preventive maintenance on aircraft and aircraft-installed equipment. Preflight responsibilities include ensuring that the aircraft has been properly serviced with fuel, hydraulic fluid and liquid oxygen. After flight responsibilities include ensuring that the aircraft is still in operationally-ready condition.
After four weeks of hands-on training at Little Rock Air Force Base, he will be stationed at Dyess Air Force Bass in Abilene, Texas. He expects leave time in July which will include working for his recruiter in Gastonia.
He is a 2004 graduate of West Lincoln High School. He is the son of Ed and Joan Hickman of Vale and the grandson of Johanne Belosi of Hickory, Hewitt and Margaret Hickman of Vale and Jim and Joyce Shook of Newton.
