Recent Lincolnton High School graduate Justin Keever has added two postseason baseball awards to his list of honors.
Keever has been named to the North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association class 2A all-state team and also selected as a member of the Diamond Dozen All-Gazetteland team by the Gaston Gazette.
In a multi-dimensional role this season for the Wolves, Keever compiled a .493 batting average with three home runs and posted a 1.44 earned run average as a pitcher with 73 strikeouts. He was 7-6 on the mound and played both the infield and outfield on defense.
Keever was one of four players from the Midwest 2A Conference to make the NCBCA 20-member squad. Also named from the conference were Chad Flack and Stephen Harris of state champion East Rutherford and Johnny Spake of Bandys.
In class 1A, two Cherryville players, pitcher Chris Christensen and catcher Josh Glover, earned all-state honors from the NCBCA.
Earlier, Keever, who is currently playing American Legion baseball with Cherryville Post 100, was named co-player of the year in the Midwest 2A Conference and was named recipient of the 2004 Jonathan Brookins Memorial Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship is given annually to a baseball player from a Lincoln County high school.
The Gazette also recognized one of Keever’s Lincolnton teammates, naming infielder Colby Burgin to the All-Gazetteland second team. Burgin batted .303 with 14 RBI and compiled a 6-2 record as a pitcher.
