Mark Williamson hit a grand slam and knocked in six runs to lead the Lake Norman River Pirates to a 12-1 win over Huntersville Sunday night in Area Four American Legion baseball.
Williams went 4-for-4 to account for nearly half of Lake Normanâ€™s hits.
Trey Miller added two hits for Post 509, including a double, and also scored three runs.
Josh Keller went the distance on the mound, scattering seven hits. Huntersvilleâ€™s lone run came in the third inning.
Lake Norman led only 2-1 before scoring 10 runs over a three-inning stretch starting in the fourth. A six-run spree in the sixth frame made the score 12-1, and the game ended in the seventh on the 10-run mercy rule.
Blake Eppes and Derek Worley each went 2-for-3 for Huntersville.
In action on Saturday at Bandys, Gastonia Post 23 ripped Lake Norman 17-5 behind a 14-hit attack.
Tyler Leech went 4-for-4 with a homer, two doubles and four RBI to lead Gastonia, which broke the game open with a nine-run fifth inning.
Evan Denton also homered for Post 23.
Trey Miller was the top hitter for Post 509 with a 2-for-4 night.
The weekend action left Lake Norman with a 8-6 record in the Eastern Division of Area Four, 10-8 overall.
