The Gaston Braves defeated Denver Post 455 12-7 Thursday night led by Jay McConnell.
McConnell, a Gardner-Webb signee, was 2-for-5 on the night with three RBIs.
His biggest shot of the night was a solo homer that soared over the right-centerfield fence in the third for a 4-0 lead.
McConnell drove in another run in the sixth with a single.
Denver rallied from a 6-0 deficit to pull the game to 8-5 in the top of the seventh. But they would get no closer.
Gaston scored four runs in the bottom half of the seventh to take full control of the ballgame up 12-5.
Denver scored two runs in the eighth, but was unable to score again.
Leading hitters for the Braves were: Aaron Horne who went 3-for-5 and McConnell who went 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
Colby Burgin went 2-for-5 and Dustin Weaver went 2-for-4 for Post 455.
The victory on the mound went to Brody Heffner, while Burgin suffered the loss for Denver.
Brandon Jones and Weaver both turned in stellar defensive plays in the contest making several catches where they demonstrated a lot of range.
Jones and Weaver also threw somebody out at the plate.
The next game for Post 455 will be a home game versus Gastonia at East Lincoln High on Sunday, June 20th.
The loss drops Post 455â€™s record to 1-9 on the season.
