ABC store to open Tuesday in Denver

DENVER — Eastern Lincoln County’s first ABC store will open Tuesday after some delays.
The store, located at 7539 Waterside Crossing Boulevard in Denver, is 4,200 square feet and serves as a sales floor and warehouse facility. The hours of the ABC store will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Store Manager, David Goodnight has been busy with the finishing touches.
“We are stocking shelves, getting computers and inventory ready,” Goodnight said. “We are receiving orders and putting products on the shelf.”
He said there has been some delays in opening the store which had a target date of March.
“The biggest delay was the parking lot with the paving,” he said. “There was rain at the wrong time.”
Goodnight has hired three full-time and four part-time staff members to help run the store.
Sept. 10, 2002 was the date Lincoln County approved the operation of an ABC store and the sale of mixed beverages. Starting in November of 2002, an Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission was formed in order to operate the ABC store and administer the sale of alcoholic beverages.
Mike Baker, Chairman of the board said they wanted to pick a location which was accessible to the public.
The intersection of N.C. 16 and N.C. 73 seemed to be a great spot, Baker said.
“We felt given the four banks, and grocery store the access was good,” he said. “We felt it would be important to have it at an intersection.”
The board chose to have it at the intersection of N.C. 73 instead of up on N.C. 16 so they would not miss the traffic on N.C. 73.
Eastern Lincoln County was chosen as the designed area due to the growth taking place.
