Lincolnton Wolves tennis players John James and Devin High returned to the 2A State Tournament.
Last having been eliminated in the first round, the duo improved upon that performance by breezing through the first round this year.
Their second round opponent was against No. 2 seed Charlotte Catholic’s Paul Bartholomy and Brandon Lamoureaux.
The duo from Lincolnton fought hard but lost a tie break 7-6 in the first set.
The match according to head coach Chris Hoffman ‘began to get away from them in the second,’ losing 6-1.
Hoffman was very pleased with the senior duo’s performance.
“I’m extremely proud of these two young men. They’re played with a lot of heart and provided us with many thrilling matches the past two seasons,†he said.
James and High put the finishing touches on a successful season.
The 2004 campaign saw them finish with a 16-3 record. Their losses came against state finalists and semi-finalists.
The highlight of their season was defeating Jeff Gehringer and Darrius Thompson from East Rutherford to become Midwest 2A Conference double champions.
