Post 100 set to open

Cherryville American Legion Post 100 postponed its first two games this week and is now set to open the 2004 season Saturday night at Buck Fraley Field against Burke County.
The two postponed games, at Charlotte Post 262 and at home versus Steele Creek, will be made up at a later date.
The team may not be at full strength for the opener. That`s because Cherryville High School is still alive in the state 1A playoffs. The Ironmen were to play at Hayesville today in the second round.
However, Post 100 will have the services of players from the other schools in its district: West Lincoln, Lincolnton, Burns and Kings Mountain.
After Saturday`s home opener, Cherryville will travel to Burke County on Sunday, kicking off a four-game road swing.
Most of the players that carried Post 100 to last year`s American Legion national championship game will be missing when the team debuts Saturday. Coach Bobby Reynolds has the daunting task of replacing eight starters from the winningest team in team history.
