Knights dismantle Cherokee

The North Lincoln Lady Knights made quite a softball debut in the 1A State Softball Tournament.
On Wednesday, the Lady Knights visited and defeated Cherokee 11-0.
The first three innings the game was scoreless, but in the fourth North broke the game open.
Debbie Jackson, Jenna Torbert, Donia McDonald, Calah Bynum, McKenzie Harkey and three walks broke open the flood gates.
The big hit of the inning was a three-run triple by Lindsey Smith to give the Lady Knights a 8-0 lead.
The Knights scored three more rungs in the sixth with Harkey, Jackson and McDonald all hitting safely. Brittany Reel followed them with a sacrifice fly RBI.
Nicole Baxter pitched for the Lady Knights, allowing only two hits and striking out 10 in six innings.
Cherokee was the No. 2 seed representing the Smokey Mountain Conference with a 10-3 record.
The next opponent will be Cherryville on Tuesday at Cherryville. The game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Lady Ironmen advanced by defeating Hayesville 7-0.
It is a much anticipated rematch for both teams with the Lady Knights losing a heartbreaker earlier in the season.by John Mark Brooks
