Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Michael C. Hunt, son of Juanita L. Hunt of Cherryville recently graduated from the Nuclear Field “A” School at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, Goose Creek, S.C.
The three- to six-month course teaches machinist’s mates, electrician’s mates and electronics technicians the basics of their jobs. It provides hands-on training on equipment designed to teach technical skills.
Hunt will attend follow-on training at the Nuclear Power School and receive more detailed instruction on principles of science and engineering, construction, and operation and maintenance of naval nuclear propulsion plants. Hunt also was promoted to his current rank.
Hunt is a 2003 graduate of Cherryville High School and joined the Navy in October 2003.

Navy Seaman Joel R. Sharp, son of Ricky Sharp of Iron Station, is currently in the middle of a routine, scheduled deployment while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, homeported in Norfolk, Va.
Sharp is one of more than 7,600 Sailors and Marines aboard the ships of the USS George Washington Carrier Strike Group deployed to carry out America’s ongoing operations in the war on terrorism.
Carriers like the USS George Washington are deployed throughout the world to maintain U.S. presence and provide rapid response in times of crisis. They serve as a highly visible deterrent to would-be aggressors, and are equipped with the most versatile and powerful weapons and aircraft available.
Sharp joined the Navy in September 2003.
