North finishes with win

The North Lincoln Lady Knights softball team finished their regular season on a high note Thursday with a convincing 8-1 win over the Maiden Blue Devils.
The night belonged to Jenna Torbert who crushed a grand slam homerun, singled, doubled and accounted for 5 RBIs in the game.
Other leading hitters for the Lady Knights were: Lindsey Smith who had a single, triple accounting for one RBI, Mackenzie Harkey who singled twice and scored three runs and Kayleigh Brown who had a RBI-triple.
Donia McDonald, Calah Bynum and Meredith Towery each contributed in the victory with a single apiece.
Nicole Baxter, who regularly allows less than three hits a game, only surrendered two hits in a complete game performance, while striking out six.
Baxter improved her record to 10-5 on the season with the win.
No errors were committed by the Lady Knights’ defense.
The loss for Maiden drops them to second place in the Southern Foothills 1A Conference, with North Lincoln finishing third.
Conference playoffs will start Monday when North Lincoln will host Hendersonville.
It is possible the Lady Knights will face the Lady Blue Devils again on Wednesday.
The victory was a redemption song for the Lady Knights who lost to Maiden 5-4 in their previous meeting.
The Lady Knights raise their record to 15-5 overall and 8-4 in the SF1A Conference.
Their third place conference finish qualifies them for the 1A State Playoffs which is scheduled to begin on May 18.by John Mark Brooks
