Wolves win 6th straight

The Lincolnton Wolves continued their winning ways beating Newton-Conover 8-3 in decisive fashion Tuesday night.
Senior Colby Burgin pitched a complete game, while giving up only one earned run. Burgin struck out nine batters recording the victory.
Justin Keever, the Wolves’ leading hitter on the season, led the team with two hits. Fellow senior Evan Wise also had two hits.
The win raises Lincolnton’s record to 14-7 on the season and 8-3 in the Midwest 2A Conference.
The victory was the sixth consecutive one for the Wolves. They will visit Shelby on Friday.
Lincolnton will finish the regular season visiting Bandys next Tuesday, then hosting East Rutherford on Friday.

North baseball
The North Lincoln Knights fell 7-6 to the Bessemer City Yellow Jackets Friday.
The loss lowers the Knights’ record to 6-13 on the season with a 2-7 mark in the Southern Foothills 1A Conference.
Josh Belk pitched six innings, striking out nine batters. He only relinquished four hits in the contest.
Leading hitters for the Knights were Trent Hopkins who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBIs and Kyle Baker who went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Knights will face Polk County and Maiden to finish out their regular season.
The Southern Foothills Conference Tournament is scheduled for May 10, 12-13.

Lincolnton tennis
The Lincolnton Wolves tennis team rolled over the East Rutherford Cavaliers 9-0 Tuesday in their Midwest 2A regular season finale.
No. 1 seed John James defeated Jeff Gehringer 6-2, 6-1. No. 2 seed Devin High defeated Darris Thompson 6-0, 6-3. No. 3 seed Jason Martin defeated Kyle Moore 6-2, 6-1.
No. 4 seed Lee Campbell defeated Dean Nemechek 6-0, 6-1. No. 5 Andrew Mauney defeated Lee Griffith 6-0, 6-2. No. 6 seed Adil Huselja rounded out the sweep for Lincolnton defeating James Trammell 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles the Wolves were just as dominant. At No. 1 James/High defeated Gehringer/Thompson 8-3. No. 2 Martin/Campbell defeated Moore/Nemechek 8-0. No. 3 Mauney/Huselja defeated Coldren/Horn 8-0.
Lincolnton head coach Chris Hoffman was very happy with his team’s performance.
“Our singles lineup again played very well. We got on them early and did not back off. Doubles was much of the same,” he said.
The win secured the No. 2 seed for the Wolves in the Midwest 2A Conference. The conference tournament will be held next week.
Lincolnton improves their record to 8-4 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
On May 11th, the first round of the Dual Team will begin for the Wolves.
The West Regional is scheduled for May 14th and 15th. The second round of the Dual Team is scheduled for May 18th, with the State Finals falling on May 21-22.
