A Vale man remains in critical condition today following a wreck that killed a Hickory man Saturday.
Glenn Boyd Smith, 71, of Cranberry Trail in Vale is in critical condition at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, officials there said.
Joseph Ingerling, 19, of Hickory was killed in the wreck, which happened on N.C. 10 just over the Lincoln County line, Sgt. T.E. Ellis with the North Carolina Highway Patrol said.
Two passengers in Ingerling’s vehicle were flown to area hospitals with serious injuries, Ellis said. There were two other passengers in the car, but their injuries were not available this morning.
Ellis said Smith was traveling west on N.C. 10 at about 11 p.m. when his vehicle went left of center and struck Ingerling’s car head-on.
Charges are pending, Ellis said.
In a separate incident, Beverly Beal of Lincolnton was critically injured after a bike accident Saturday.
Beal was riding her bicycle along Gastonia Highway when she hit a rock and was thrown from the bike, said John Watts with Lincoln County EMS.
She struck her head and was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in critical condition.
A child that was riding a bike with the woman was uninjured.
