On Sunday, April 4, the West Lincoln High School Library Science classes and media coordinator Jackie Shaw held a Community Appreciation Day to thank the parents, community members and businesses for their support this year. They also recognized art contest winners and library volunteers.
The new science, social studies and fiction books the library purchased with a grant from the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) of 1996 were on display. In 2002, a committee wrote a grant proposal that combined 10,000 from the LSTA grant with 10,000 from the school.
Committee members were Reda Johnson, Debbie Cornwell, Reba Craft, Gina Davis, Debbie Gantt, Dwight Gantt, Vivian Fite, Butch Parker, Ramey Peeler, Renee Porch, Tiffany Rome and Sandie Hopkins.
School board members and central office personnel joined with Dr. Debra Morris, principal, in welcoming guests and thanking them for their support of the West Lincoln High School library.
Parents of the senior class of 2003 donated books to honor their graduates, while businesses gave artwork, furniture and decorative plans to help make the library a welcoming place for students to read and study.
