An infield error on a ground ball off the bat of Matt Kuster allowed Colby Burgin to score the go ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning Friday night as the Wolves downed Bandys 5-4 in Midwest 2A baseball action.
Lincolnton, 7-5 (4-1), took the early lead in the bottom of the first.
Justin Keever`s double advanced Burgin to third with one out in the inning. Burgin had reached on a base on balls. A pass ball and a wild pitch both reached the backstop, allowing the two baserunners to score.
The Wolves would add a run in the second. Walks to Jose Leon and Brian Ebert set up an RBI single by Burgin, giving Lincolnton a 3-0 advantage.
The Trojans got on the board in the fourth. Pitcher Bubbie Spake homered deep to left center to give Bandys their first run of the game.
Two batters later, Mark Williamson`s homerun would pull the Trojans to within one.
The Wolves answered the Bandys score in the bottom half of the inning. Dustin Weaver reached safely on an error to lead the inning off. After Ebert`s sacrifice bunt advanced Weaver to second, Burgin again delivered an RBI single to give Lincolnton a 4-2 lead.
After a three up, three down fifth, the Trojan offense came to life in the sixth.
Zach Elliott reached on a one out single. Williamson then tripled Elliott home to make the score 4-3. Manning Wimberly then reached on an infield error, allowing Williamson to score, tying the game at four.
A one out walk to Burgin, followed by a Keever single in the bottom half of the sixth, set up the game winning run for the Wolves. Keever pitched a perfect seventh, getting two pop outs and a ground out to preserve the win.
Keever pitched a complete game, allowing four runs on seven hits, while striking out six.
Keever and Burgin were the top hitters for the Wolves. Keever was 3-4 at the plate, while Burgin went 2-2 with two walks, and two RBIs.
