The courtsquare will be lined with vendors and craftsmen this month — ushering in spring and joining in a new festival for Lincolnton.
Main Street Spring Market will be held Saturday, April 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“It’s going to be like a downtown bazaar with arts and crafts,†said Ron Kinsey, owner of A Cup of Grace. “We would also like nurseries and greenhouses. We want to have a very festive floral presence downtown for this.â€
Kinsey’s business is located on the east side of the courtsquare. He has noticed the traffic that goes through town and wants Lincolnton to take advantage of it.
“Over 11,000 cars go around this square everyday,†said Kinsey. “We need to invite people not just to drive around town but to stop and enjoy the quaint ambiance of downtown Lincolnton.â€
Kinsey approached the Lincolnton/Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Development Association about the project and met with a good response.
He has heard from more than 20 vendors so far who want to participate.
Downtown businesses may join in the event at no cost — putting displays and sale items out on the sidewalks in front of their stores.
Kinsey plans on having performers at his shop. His neighboring business, Court Street Grille, will sell pizza by the slice.
Additional vendors will display their crafts and items in front of businesses that are closed. Vendors must pay a $30 fee to participate. Kinsey feels the cost is minimal, and the money will be used for advertising.
No portion of Main Street will be closed for the event. Kinsey says shutting down the main road would be counterproductive to the purpose of the first-time festival.
“It’s going to be a very diverse turn out,†said Kinsey. “It’s basically showing that downtown Lincolnton is a happening place.â€
